Hiking and biking

Lace up your boots and get on your bike!

Darwin is a wonderful destination for outdoor activities in the dry winter months and has around 70km of on-road cycleways and dedicated shared paths. Head over to the City of Darwin website for the latest cycling and walking map. Remember that pedestrians have right of way and while wearing a helmet is not compulsory for riders over 17 years of age when riding on a path or public place that is separated from the road, we do recommend that cyclists wear a helmet at all times.

If mountain biking is more your style, there are some great trails close by at Casuarina Coastal Reserve, Charles Darwin National Park and even right here in Howard Springs. You can explore the trail maps at the Darwin Off-Road Cyclists website

And if you like to use your own two feet to explore, Darwin and surrounds is blessed with great local attractions that can be explored on foot, along with our amazing National Parks and Reserves. Head over to the Northern Territory website for the many options, including city sightseeing, Darwin Waterfront Precinct, Charles Darwin National Park and further afield to Litchfield. For a truly immersive experience you can also join an informative sightseeing tour with a local guide from Walk Darwin. For information or assistance with Tour Bookings, visit Reception at the park.
